Today is Wednesday. This makes me happy. Although, at this moment, I am cramped on the tube on my way to work with hundreds of other commuters, I am still happy. Why, you may ask? Why would I be happy squashed between some guys armpit and a woman's unnecessarily oversized handbag?
Because today is delivery day.
Every Wednesday our delivery man, Simon, comes to our apartment and leaves behind a big, brown box. A box full of nutrients. A box full of seasonal inspiration. A box full of organic fruit and vegetables from Riverford Farm.
I am so excited each Wednesday to get home and discover what edible delights await. The quality of the produce is always sublime. The apples are sweet and crisp and the tomatoes red and juicy. Of course, it's all seasonal. This is the best part about it. Because there is such variety it allows me to get creative in the kitchen. Each vegetable sends my imagination into overdrive as I think of what I can make. Such a wonderful feeling to be able to turn these simple, humble vegetables into something exciting!
Cooking and eating in season means that the flavours are at their peak and everything is fresh. Admittedly, it's not quite as good as eating from my Dad's veggie patch, but it comes pretty close.
It's fresh, healthy, nutritious food, the way it should be. Now that's something everyone should get excited about.
